Richard Clein - a different kind of politician
The new Sefton Central is a two horse race between the Conservatives and the Liberal Democrats "THE fight for the new Sefton Central constituency is hotting up with former BBC Radio Merseyside broadcaster Richard Clein now in the running. Richard, 36, will battle to win the seat for the Liberal Democrats in the next general election." Crosby Herald 1/11/07
Richard says: "Sefton Central is a straight fight between the Liberal Democrats and the Conservatives. Labour has no councillors in the new constituency and can no longer take the people of Sefton Central for granted.
"The win from the Tories in Manor was particularly pleasing after the Tories said voting Liberal Democrat would let Labour in. The reality is that although the LabCon coalition collapsed on the Council, it is still firmly in place on Merseyside Fire Authority and Merseytravel. It's no wonder people are asking how they can ever trust the Tories again?
"There is no enthusiasm on the doorstep for either the Conservatives or Labour. People feel let down and know that the Liberal Democrats work all year round and not just at election time.
“"My campaign is about protecting our health service and ensuring everyone has access to an NHS dentist and that there is free care for our elderly. I am also fighting for the promised transfer of government jobs from Whitehall to our area.
“I have a proven record and look forward to working with and speaking up for the people of Sefton Central."
