A former BBC Radio Merseyside journalist, Richard works in Liverpool as associate director at one of the UK's biggest communication companies. He is an experienced consultant specialising in media relations, public affairs, crisis and reputation management, consultation and media training - listed in PR Week as one of the most influential people in PR in the UK (2007 and 2008).
In 2006, Richard was elected to serve on the Liberal Democrats ruling body, the Federal Executive and as one of the party's top campaigners has masterminded record-breaking local and parliamentary gains. These include in 1997 for Rt Hon Malcolm Bruce MP in NE Scotland; in 1998 and 2004 in Liverpool (Anfield and Princes Park) and in May 2008 winning a seat from the Tories in Sefton Central. In the 2010 General Election, Richard fought Sefton Central where he received 9,656 votes, increasing the Liberal Democrats share.
Richard is a former advisory board member of the Penny Lane Development Trust (PLDT) and a current Governor of Booker Avenue Infants School.
